Abstract

Even after 71 years of Educational Development in India, yet we are far behind the international standards right from the elementary to the level of Higher Education. No doubt there has been quantitative growth through the various five years plan and incentives to reduce the dropout at school level yet the qualitative intake to higher education is wanting. Education is the planned process of inducing those attitudes and transmitting those skills that are essential for local, regional and national development. Though the modern education particularly higher education started in the 19th century and had a steady growth during the 20th century. Yet after Globalisation it is faced with variety of challenges. One of them is linking the three sector of education. This paper tries to analyze the qualitative and quantitative growth of Elementary Education through the various policies and programmes of government and how it impacts the system of Higher Education.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the genetic affinities of Gavara, Kalinga and Turpukapu Caste populations of Andhra Pradesh by using mitochondrial DNA. In this work, hyper variable region of mitochondrial DNA that gives an insight on specific patterns of divergence, migration and evolutionary history is used to trace the genetic diversity of three Caste populations of Andhra Pradesh and also, the genetic affinities with other available Indian populations.

Abstract

An investigation on the effect of the Azadirachta indica on the ovary of fresh water catfish Heteropneustes fossilis was carried out in the laboratory. Fishes were exposed to sub-lethal concentrations of Azadirachta indica for 24,48,72 and 96 hrs. The LC50 values of Azadirachta indica calculated for Heteropneustes fossilis for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours are 10.5, 8.5, 7.0 and 6.5 ml/L respectively. The ovaries were removed for histological examination. The normal ovary of Heteropneustes fossilis showed developing follicles with large nucleus and several nucleoli, few degenerating oocytes were also seen but exposure leads to shrinkage of oocytes, vacuolated cytoplasm, degenerating vitellogenic follicles, disintegrated interstitial tissues, necrosis and damaged follicles.

Abstract

Urginea indica Kunth is an important medicinal plant being used extensively to cure innumerable human ailments both by local people and by pharmaceutical companies. It shows great morphological variations and grows in the wild. The development of genetically improved varieties of Urginea indica Kunth which is having such a huge medicinal value would be beneficial in the field of pharmacy. But before the development of genetically improved varieties, the mutagenic screening (detection and verifications of mutagenic activity) of the mutagens on the plants should be done.Therefore, in this research work, the sensitivity of the Urginea indica KunthSynanthus variety to Ethyl Methane Sulphonate was assessed by estimating the frequency of aberrations in the pollen grains of Urginea indica Kunth after treatment for two generations i.e. M1 and M2 generations.The decreased pollen fertility and alteration in the shape and size of the pollen grains with the increasing concentrations of Ethyl Methane Sulphonate in both M1 and M2 generations showed the sensitivity of Urginea indica KunthSynanthus variety to Ethyl Methane Sulphonate.
