Abstract

Pharmacological activities of the ten alkaloids present in Erythrina variegate were assessed using PASS software. PASS prediction result showed that these alkaloids were found to exhibit various pharmacological activities like 5-hydroxytypaminestimulant(92.9%), Chlordecone release stimulant (89.1%),aspulvinone dimethyl allyl stimulant (89.1%), fibrinolytic (86.1%),MAP kinase stimulant (84.3%),antidyskinetic (84.0%),Taurine dehydrogenase inhibitor (83.6%) as their highest scores.

Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is one of the common autoimmune diseases with unknown etiology that its prevalence ratio in females to males is 3:1. It has been suggested that serum antioxidant levels is reduced and lipid peroxidation is increased due to oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to estimate levels of Malondialdehyde (the marker of lipid Peroxidation) & Reduced Glutathione (Nonenzymatic antioxidant marker) in serum of rheumatoid arthritis patients & compare them with the levels in normal healthy controls.A study was performed at the Department of biochemistry at SP medical college, Bikaner, Rajasthan. In 50 patients of rheumatoid arthritis serum levels of Non enzymatic Antioxidant & lipid Peroxidation marker were estimated by UV-VIS spectrophotometry. Fifty healthy controls were also included in the study & serum levels of same parameter also measured in them also. Serum level of Reduced Glutathione was significantly lower in the patients than in the controls. (P<0.0001). The serum Lipid Peroxidation marker (MDA) level was significantly increased in the patients than in the controls (P<0.0001). The increased oxidative stress in terms of lipid Peroxidation marker (MDA) in the rheumatoid arthritis patients is evidenced by decreased serum levels of non-enzymatic (GSH) antioxidant.

Abstract

A major cause of endodontic treatment failure is missed (or) untreated root canals .An accurate diagnosis of the morphology of the root canal system is a prerequisite for successful root canal treatment. Clinicians should be aware of anatomical variations in premolars and be able to apply this knowledge in radiographic and clinical interpretation. The occurrence of three canals with separate foramina in both the first and second premolar especially in the maxillary second premolar is shown to be in extremely low percentages and has been documented as practically non-existent in Asian populations. This article describes two cases of maxillary first and one case of maxillary second premolar with three roots and three canals.

Abstract

Determine the exact age is very useful in various field and it became more important when we do not have any specific date of birth certificate. Age has its very specific role in medico legal aspect, whether it is a juvenile case or a case of marriage or a case of retirement, in all we need somewhat near exact age so that we can lead to justice, but in this high-tech world we are still struggling to put specific ways to lay out correct age. However fusion of bone gave us an edge to determine the specify age and here in this study were taking appearance and fusion of medial end of clavicle to determine age which can be very useful in medico legal aspect.

Abstract

Present study was conducted on 50 patient of coronary heart disease patient and 50 persons are healthy subjects between the age group 25-70 years of both sex. Coronary heart disease is the largest killer disease in developed countries and is rapidly assuming a similar role in developing countries. The WHO has drawn attention to the fact that coronary heart disease (CHD) is our modern epidemic, not an unavoidable attribute of aging. It is estimated that if incidence of CHD is brought to zero it would increase the life expectancy by 3 to 9%.[1] Serum vitamin B9 were measured by hplc grade kit with the help of HPLC. Serum vitamin B9 of coronary heart disease patients showed a highly significant (p0.0001) relationship. Estimation of serum vitamin B9 is reliable, economic and sensitive and it can be used in proper management of chronic complications of coronary heart disease.

Abstract

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is having highest malignant potential than any other oral premalignant lesions. OSMF now accepted globally as an Indian disease, the understanding of the exact role of alkaloids and other etiological agents with respect to pathogenesis will help the management and minimize the blind clinical trials and treatment modalities. There are few clinical trials where Aloe vera is been used in the treatment of oral diseases such as oral lichen planus, recurrent aphthous stomatitis, oral pemphigus, herpetic stomatitis, radiation induced mucositis. Aloe vera has been used in many systemic diseases because of its multiple therapeutic properties such as antioxidant, anti-helminthic, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, lipolytic, laxative, anti- arthritic and also as a uterine stimulant. The present article aims in evaluation of these clinical trials to assess the efficacy of Aloe vera as a therapeutic modalities in OSMF.

7.A rare case of recto - uterine fistula following LSCS

Abstract

Introduction:

Recto-uterine fistula is a very rare condition, which includes a communication between the epithelial surfaces of the rectum and uterine cavity causing various symptoms like fecal incontinence, fecoloid leucorrhoea etc.

Case report:

A 22 year old para2 lady presented to us with a recto-uterine fistula following a cesarean section. Excision of the fistula, primary bowel defect repair and hysterectomy was done for her following which she had an uneventful recovery.

Conclusion:

Recto-uterine fistula in a young woman with no co morbidities following a cesarean section even though extremely rare is a significantly distressing condition and a very possible complication to be feared. And hence this case is being reported for general information and pertinent discussion.

Abstract

It is now well known that COPD is associated with significantly systemic abnormalities such as ischemic heart disease, lung cancer, anemia osteoporosis, Diabetes, hypertension, Depression, and various other co morbidities. The inflammatory processes in COPD contribute to remodeling of pulmonary tissues; the same inflammatory processes that characterize COPD are also risk factors for these co-morbidities. Patients (78.5%) were in 41-70 years age group with severe (39.2%) and very severe (48%) COPD mostly from rural, illiterate and smoker.

Abstract

Elevated serum Homocysteine may be an important cause for atherosclerosis formation. The present study was undertaken to assess oxidative stress and antioxidant status in patients with Coronary Artery Disease, and their contribution to the risk of cardiovascular disease. The present series of study was conducted on 50 patients of coronary heart disease and 50 persons as control healthy subjects between the age group 25-70 years of both sexes the following parameters were assessed to elucidate the oxidant-antioxidant status in patients with Coronary artery disease. Serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels which serve as an index of extent of lipid peroxidation, serum ascorbic acid and vitamin E serve as non enzymatic antioxidant parameters. The increase level of MDA in CHD patients was statistically highly significant as compared to that of normal control group 1.51±0.50 nmoles/ml, as evident by P-value (P<0.0001), The Vitamin C level was found to be significantly decreased to (0.21± 0.10 mg%) in Coronary Heart Disease patients (P<0.0001). The vitamin E level was found to be decreased significantly to (0.20±0.10 mg%) in Coronary Heart Disease Patients subject as compared to that of normal controls (1.03 ± 0.31 mg%) as shown by P-value (P<0.0001). The results may be significant in understanding the possible contribution of serum MDA, antioxidant vitamin C and vitamin E in the pathophysiological process of developing the strategies for prevention and early diagnosis.

Abstract

An 8 year old male child presented to casualty with hematuria and right flank pain following a fall from a height of 3 feet. On evaluation the child had left-to-right crossed renal ectopia without fusion with grade 3 renal injury in the left ectopic kidney. The child was hemodynamically stable. He was managed conservatively and discharged in a stable condition. Follow up ultrasound scan after 3 months did not reveal any perinephric collection.

Abstract

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) is a technology that has been recently emerged, and bring a lot of interests. VANET can be used to improve road safety, reduce road traffic, serve interests of its users, and provide emergency services. The security is one of the most important issues in VANET, it is considered a critical point in the development of robust VANET systems. In this paper, a diverse types of security challenges and requirements of VANET will be discussed, and a set of possible solutions for VANET security problems and attacks will be presented and analyzed. Also this paper will propose a new protocol that is called the reply protocol, this protocol aims to protect VANET against several attacks.

Abstract

Little Rann of Kutch, a desert of Gujarat, India was selected to get an extremotolerant bacterium, and one potential isolate, capable to tolerate NaCl stress from upto 25% (w/v) was named LrkA. The isolate Lrk-A was screened for the extracellular alpha amylase production and starch agar plate showed a zone of starch utilization. Plackett-Burman design was used to identify and to optimize the nutrient components.The enzyme amylase is one of the hydrolysing enzymes used in detergent formulation and the effectiveness of the enzyme depends on its compatibility with other ingredients of the detergent formulation. In this study anionic surfactants Sodium Dodecyl hydrogen Sulphate (SDS), the cationic surfactant Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (CTAB), chelating agent Ethelene Diamine Tetra Acetic acid (EDTA) and reducing agent Urea were used to check the tolerance capacity of bacterial amylases from Lrk-A isolate. These compounds were checked at 10mM concentration with 24 hrs incubation period time. We found, SDS and CTAB have activating effect on amylase. This work reports that, this bacterial amylase from Lrk-A isolate have potential application in detergent industry.
