In this study, Luffa aegyptiaca seed oil-modified alkyd resin was used as a binder in the formulation of a solvent based Semi-gloss paint. The physicochemical characterization of the paint indicates that it’s a good paint with relatively very low VOC emission which conformed with the standard of the environmental pollution regulatory bodies in terms of chemical toxicity. The formulated semi-gloss paint has a pH of 7.82 which is a good pH for domestic paints. The paint has viscosity of 128 centipoise which makes it suitable for application by either brush or spray. The formulated paint exhibited good adhesion, tackiness, opacity, flexibility and hardness properties. The paint also possesses good resistance to blistering; hence, it indicates that it has good external exposure resistance and thus; can perform well when exposed to environmental conditions such as rain and sun. The formulated semi-gloss paint has a drying time of < 2 hours and < 6 hours for surface dry and tack-free property respectively. The paint has a refractive index 1.48, this contributed in the glossiness of the paint. The paint also shows very good resistance to chemical mediums (Ionic, Alkaline and Acidic), hence, the paint possesses a good Stability and durability properties.

A dishwasher was designed for use in the domestic setting and mini restaurants for washing dishes. It consists of tub (the washing chamber) where the washing operation takes place, the rack where the soiled dishes are placed. The dishwasher is provided with a heater for the heating of the water, water pump and two tanks (for the soapy water and rinsing water).

The machine was developed from locally sourced materials such as mild steel, angle iron and PVC water pipes. Construction and testing were carried out and the result showed that the dishes were well cleaned and it had overall acceptability based on smell, cleanliness and appearance. Seven dishes were washed and rinsed in a time of 69.29 seconds. The machine has an average capacity of cleaning 371 dishes per hour.

This study was to develop a turmeric slicing machine in order to improve the slicing efficiency of fresh turmeric. A turmeric slicing machine was designed, fabricated, and evaluated. The slicing unit consists of cylinder, piston, collecting rod, cam, blades, blades separator, and blade holder. The slicing of turmeric was effected using reciprocating principle with fixed blade powered by an electric motor. The spacing of the blade was made 7mm to achieve uniform slices of turmeric. The blade was removable for easy cleaning and for replacement with blade of varying sizes for the slicing machine to achieve desired slicing. The machine was evaluated with turmeric rhizomes for slicing efficiency (S.E) and percentage of non-uniform slice. The slicing efficiency, non-uniform slice and capacity of the machine for slicing turmeric obtained were 59.8%, 40.2% and 34.3 kg/h respectively.
